About Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation Educational Advancement Program

The Descendants Truth & Reconciliation Foundation (DTRF) has created a scholarship program to provide post-secondary scholarships to Descendants of Jesuit and Catholic owned slaves slaveholding (Descendants) in the United States (Program). The initiative is part of DTRF’s core programming plans, which include supporting the educational aspirations of Descendants from early childhood education through post-secondary education; investing in truth, racial healing, and reconciliation in communities and organizations throughout America; and supporting elderly and infirm Descendants.

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will administer the Program funded by the DTRF. The Program will provide annual, need-based scholarships of up to $10,000 to Descendants to assist them with their college expenses. The total eligible scholarship amount will be allocated in two installments: one during the Fall 2025 semester and the second during the Spring 2026 semester (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be enrolled full-time or part-time at an accredited post-secondary institution or continuous education program Two-year post-secondary institutions Four-year post-secondary institutions Open to all majors Must have the 2025-2026 FAFSA on file at your selected university/college by the time of selection Must be able to demonstrate a financial need Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 Must have received a verification number or certification number after submitting an application approved by the GU272 Descendants Association

Scholarship Allocation:

The eligible total amount will be funded in two disbursements for the 2025-2026 academic year, based on the conditions outlined in the scholar’s contract.
